Out of fun what are some top money saving tips?

H F asked:

So far I came up with these ideas or found:
1. use the library
Most of the stuff I just watch or listen too 1 time, so why waste time buying them (dvds, cds, books) if your only going to use them 1 time. Unless it’s for school or something.
2. If something breaks search the internet or read the manual to try and find a way to fix it, or attempt it yourself. My laptop almost crashed, and it would′ve cost $300. to fix it, but instead of sending it to get fixed, I ended up fixing it myself by doing just random things to it.
3. Don’t invest in pop, and only drink it if someone gives it to you. This I find hard because I don’t invest in it. However, my grandma gives me a lot of pop. I’m also trying to stop the addiction…
If you are burning cds, try investing in an Ipod. They will hold the songs, so that all those cds aren’t necessary
4. Get a bank account were you can collect interest on the money.
5. Only buy the items when they go on sale. (I personally find this hard, but I’ve found out the hard way that if you wait; you can save.
6. Invest in seeds to start your own garden. This will save you time from buying fruit or vegetables at the store along with money. Plus it will be healthier because you know were they came from, and won’t have to worry about recalls or anything.
7. Use Amazon, Good Will, eBay, yard sales, flea markets… to find anything you might want. I’ve gotten a lot of good buys through ebay and amazon.

Brown bag your lunch to school or work every day and save about $100 per month with minimal effort. Greater savings can be achieved if you pack leftovers or make a sandwich. Savings are still significant if you buy a frozen meal and bring it to work/school.

Buy what you need, not what you want. Learn the difference between need and desire.

those are some really great tips!!….I think learning to cook from sratch would save us all a TON of money…packaged foods not only cause disease and have no nutrients but are so expensive. Also, I have found that costco saves us lots in the long run on food..we buy organic and they have lots of organics.
a lot of money has been saved by buying clothes from thrift stores!….and occasionally sales racks. Also I have saved sooo much from buying my nice clothes at ROSS…they have great deals..
