What are the pros and cons of the 4 parenting style?

By admin | July 30, 2009

ghost12387 asked:

I was studying the pros and cons of the 4 parenting styles permissive indulgent, permissive neglectful, authoritarian, and authoritative and was wondering what everyone thought about what the pros and cons would be for them? In particular what are some cons to authoritative, I couldn’t seem to find any?

I don’t really find any of them fully effective…each lacks in too much…one extreme or another.

I found the perspective of Social Guide much more successful all around…I have 2 boys, now 20 & 24, and a daughter, 11. I saw my children as of me, but not mine…each came to experience a lifetime, and so, from day one, I provided them as many opportunities of experience that they wanted to choose of, and used those to guide them through the general social acceptablity techniques to allow them as much stealth as possible while continuing. Very much like action/consequence training. My kids are amazing…they learned to make wiser choices of their matters quite early on, and became/are becoming skillful in many ways…as a parent, I don’t think I could have given them a greater gift–freedom to be.

    Good Journey!!!

If you’re interested in discovering your parenting style based on the latest research, please check out the Parenting Style Application by Signal Patterns on Parenting.com.

The underlying model developed by our team of psychologists reveals an underlying complexity far richer than just ’strict’ or ‘relaxed’ classifications.

And what’s particularly interesting is that you can take the test for a spouse and see where potential conflicts might lie and get advice on how to deal w/them. You can also compare results to your friends’.
